چکیده

The expected value of the annual flood is always needed for attaining reliable estimates of the return period of floods. In particular, the accuracy of its estimate is crucial for ungauged basins, where regional analysis is to be invoked. The main goal of this research was to search for an index flood formula suitable to explicate the influence of basin characteristics such as geomorphology, vegetation, soil and climate. This formula, due to unavoidable overparameterization, more than being suggested for technical use, allows sensitivity analyses of simpler formulae to basin features. This study was mainly based on the theoretical distribution of floods developed by Iacobellis and Fiorentino (2000). In particular, the relationship that they derived for the first order moment was analyzed and simplified by assuming the Gumbel distribution as a first order approximation for the distributions of floods and rainfall intensities. The results were validated with regard to data recorded in some basins located in Southern Italy, in a climatically end geologically heterogeneous territory.

Prioritizing flood producing potential in ungauged watersheds using the AHP-VIKOR method (Case study: Haji-Bakhtiar Watershed, Ilam)

Extended abstract 1- Introduction Flood is one of the most complex and destructive natural phenomena that cause significant damage to agriculture, fisheries, housing, and infrastructure and significantly affects social and economic activities (Chang et al., 2008). The relationship between geomorphological and hydrological parameters makes it possible to predict floods in gauged basins and gen...

Investigating the Effect of Rainfall Spatial Distribution on Flood in Bakhtiari Dam Basin Using HEC-HMS

The disparate spatial and temporal distribution of rainfall in the country and climate variation sometimes leads to rivers flooding and large flood events, which are remarkable for life and financial losses. Flood control design requires accurate knowledge of the flood generator basin, especially smaller ones, in large basins. Determining the potential of flood generation to specify the...

A Nonlinear Creep-damage Constitutive Model of Mudstone Based on the Fractional Calculus Theory

During the flood development in an oil field, the creep characteristic of mudstone is one of the important factors causing casing damage. In this study, based on the theory of fractional order differential and taking into account the creep damage evolution rules, a fractional nonlinear creep-damage model is proposed to reflect the instantaneous deformation in loading processes and the accelerat...

Introducing the Flood Vulnerability Index (FVI) as a flood crisis management tool

Background and objective: Floods are among the most dangerous natural disasters that causes loss of life and property every year. The destructive effects of floods are more documentedو due to climate change and increasing economic and social development. Social and infrastructural vulnerabilities have also increased due to human settlement adjacent to river floodplains. Therefore, to prevent mo...

Environmental sensitivity of flash flood hazard using geospatial techniques

Flash flood has been increasing in the Khartoum area, Sudan due to geographical conditions and climatic change as heavy rainfall and high temperature, therefore the present work tried to estimate the sensitivity of flash flood. The present work proposes an advanced technique of flood sensitivity mapping using the method of analytical hierarchy process. Ten factors as elevation, slope, distance ...
